Progression routes and entry requirements

We offer courses right from Entry-level and
Level 1 for students who would like to improve
their basic skills, through to Level 2 which
is equivalent to GCSEs and Level 3 which is
equivalent to A-Levels.
We offer Level 4 and Level 5 HNCs and HNDs,
which are great options for those who would
like to begin their degree-level study in an
environment they are familiar with, which is
close to home and offers great value for money.
Many students go on to complete a one-year
top-up year at university to achieve a full
degree, after completing two years of HNC/HND
study with us.
You can start working at any stage of your
studies, however continuing your education to
a higher level can open up more opportunities
and accelerate your career progression. We
will support you to explore progression routes
so you are prepared for your next academic
and career steps, and you can make the best
decision for your future.
Entry
Requirements
These vary depending on the course you
would like to study. If you would like to
study a vocational qualification at Level
3, you will need GSCEs at grade 4 or
above. A-Levels generally require GCSE
grades at 5 or above.
Should you have missed out on GCSE
grade 4s, you will start on a Level 2
or Level 1 course and then progress
through the qualifications. On certain
courses which build practical skills, e.g.
plumbing, everyone starts at Level 1
regardless of the grades they get at
GCSE – you will then progress to a Level
2 course and then onto a Level 3 course.
